Creating your first tote pool
Pools are what you rent by the count. Here is how to create one and why the app calls it a product.
A tote pool is a group of interchangeable totes you rent by the count, so "Standard Moving Totes," not tote #47 specifically. Availability, pricing, and order line items all work at the pool level.
A pool is a product
In the dashboard, pools are created and listed as Products. Same thing: when you click + Add Product you are creating a tote pool, and when an order asks you to pick a Pool, it's offering the products you made here.
Creating one
1. Go to Inventory in the top navigation.
2. Click + Add Product.
3. Fill in the three required fields:
- Name: what your team calls it, e.g. "Standard Tote". This is what customers see on your storefront too.
- SKU: your code for it, e.g. `TOTE-STD`.
- Unit Label: the word for one of them, e.g. `tote`. It shows up wherever a single unit is named.
4. Leave Active ticked.
5. Click Create Product.
An Unsaved changes badge appears while you're editing, and nothing is stored until you save.
Active vs inactive
Unticking Active takes a pool out of circulation without deleting it, and it's marked Inactive in listings. Use it for a pool you've retired for the season rather than removing the record and losing its history.
What comes next
A pool on its own has no totes in it and no price. Two follow-ups:
- Add a price and publish it so customers can order it. See Setting up your booking page.
- Understand what the counts mean once totes exist. See Pool quantities and what counts as available.
Packages
The Inventory screen has a Packages tab for bundling products together into one customer-facing offering. It reads "Packages coming soon," and it isn't built yet. Track it on the roadmap.
