Choose the name and reply-to address on your customer emails

From name, from address, reply-to, and postal address under Settings › Emails › Sender identity, and where each one shows up in emails.

These settings shape the emails OnTote sends on your behalf today:

  • To you: when a customer sends a message or a quote request from your storefront, you get an email at your storefront contact email. Reply to it and your answer goes straight to the customer.
  • To your customers: an online order confirmation, if you turn it on. Open Settings, then Emails, and tick Send online order confirmation.

Custom email templates still save without sending. If the page shows an older "Configuration only" notice, that notice is about the templates.

Set your sender identity

1. Open Settings, then Emails, then Sender identity.

2. From name: the friendly name customers see in their inbox. Leave it blank and OnTote uses your workspace name.

3. From address name: the part before the @. Used only when you send from your own verified domain.

4. Reply-to address: where customer replies land. Leave it blank and replies go to your storefront contact email, or to the workspace owner if you have not set one.

5. Postal address: required before marketing emails can be sent. Transactional emails (confirmations, invoices) do not need it.

6. Check the From preview row. It shows the exact From header your customers will see.

7. Click Save.

Where each setting appears

  • From name appears in the inbox, in front of the address: Green River Totes . It is the human label; the address next to it is the machine one.
  • From address name takes effect only with a custom sending domain that is verified. Until then, the Sends as row tells the truth: your mail goes out as your-slug@{the shared OnTote sending domain}. The chip next to Sending domain shows Verified, Setting up, or Needs attention: sending from the OnTote domain.
  • Reply-to address decides where replies land. When a customer hits reply, their answer goes here, not to the From address.
  • Postal address is stored against your account for marketing mail. The Not set chip on the panel tells you at a glance whether it is filled in.

Access, worth knowing about: some team members see "You do not have access to email settings." and others see "You have read-only access to email settings." Either way, that is a permissions question, not a broken page.

If it looks wrong

  • Your From address name has no effect. Your custom domain is not verified yet. Until the Sending domain row shows Verified, mail sends from the shared OnTote domain.
  • The panel shows a Not set chip for the postal address. That is fine unless you are about to send marketing mail, which is the one send type that needs it.
  • No email arrived about a storefront message. Check that your storefront has a contact email set; without one, messages are saved under Messages but not emailed.
  • A custom template never sends. Expected: templates are saved for later and are not connected to sending yet.
  • "You do not have access to email settings." Your role cannot view it. Ask an owner.
