Customer records

Creating and editing customers, the fields on the form, and how storefront buyers get added automatically.

Customers in the top navigation lists everyone you rent to: name, company, phone, and email.

Creating a customer

Click + New Customer. A dialog opens with the customer form. Fill in what you have (only Name is required) and click Save.

You can also create a customer inline while writing an order, from the Customer section of the order form. Same record either way.

Editing

Click any row in the table. The same dialog opens, titled Edit Customer, with the record loaded. Change what you need and Save.

There's no separate customer detail page. The row is the entry point, and the dialog is the whole record.

What's on the form

Details: Name, Customer Type (Individual, Business, Wholesale, or VIP), Email, Phone, Company, and a "Subscribed to marketing emails" checkbox.

Addresses: a primary address, plus as many additional addresses as you need for customers who take deliveries at more than one site.

Billing: a tax profile chosen from the ones defined for your workspace, and a Discount percentage.

Security Deposit: none, a percentage, or a fixed amount. Stored for reference; it doesn't move money today. See Rental policies and deposits.

Customers from your storefront

When someone checks out on your storefront, OnTote creates or updates their customer record automatically from what they typed at checkout. Storefront buyers appear in this list alongside the ones you added by hand, so you don't have to key them in twice.

That also means the same person ordering twice with the same email gets one record, not two.
